"Immigration is so fundamental to American culture — it is what makes this country great. The perspectives and experiences of immigrants bring new depth, energy, and outlooks to our country that should be celebrated and promoted as our greatest asset. Second Generation does exactly that."
- Arvind Venkat
ENDORSED FOR Pennsylvania State Representative, 30th District
Arvind is an ER physician, a father, a husband, and an Indian immigrant.
Arvind’s parents brought him to the U.S. as a young baby. They settled in Michigan where he grew up in a tight-knit South Asian community. His parents worked hard to built a bright future for him and his brother, and his early life instilled in him the centrality of family, the nobility of service, and the importance of community. It was this ethic of hard work and commitment to service that inspired him to become a physician.
Arvind earned his medical degree at the Yale University School of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is a past President of the Pennsylvania College of Emergency Physicians, serves on the board of the McCandless-Franklin Park Ambulance Authority, and is a consultant to the Western Pennsylvania Autism Services, Education, Resources, and Training collaborative. Over the last five years, Arvind has served as a leader of Pennsylvania' state-wide emergency physicians’ organization where he advocated for more affordable and accessible health care, resources to address the opioid crisis, and better mental health services.
If elected, Arvind will be the only physician in Pennsylvania’s General Assembly. His medical experience would serve Pennsylvania well as we recover from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As a State Representative, Arvind will fight for:
Healthcare — As an ER doctor, Arvind has sadly witnessed many members of our communities fall through the cracks of our broken health care system. He believes quality healthcare should be affordable and accessible for all. Arvind wants to reduce copayments and deductibles so that insurance actually works for families, keep our parents and grandparents independent and in their homes, expand resources for treatment of addiction and mental illness, and ensure that our ERs will be able to care for all of us in times of need.
Public Services — Arvind witnessed firsthand how stretched our frontline public services became during the COVID-19 pandemic. He will ensure the schools, EMS, police, and fire departments in our communities receive significant investments.
Infrastructure — Arvind will push for renewed investment in the infrastructure of our growing and aging communities. He will prioritize bringing funding from recent federal legislation to upgrade our local roads, bridges, sewer systems, and other critical pieces of local infrastructure.
